Dear Families,
We want to inform you about an incident that occurred at William Lynch Elementary this morning at 9:45am.
Staff detected a suspicious smoke smell and as a precautionary measure, we immediately contacted the fire department.
Firefighters responded promptly, assessed the situation, and determined that there was no active fire or danger to students and staff. There was a blower unit within the ceiling that went out. The building was thoroughly checked, and normal school activities resumed once it was deemed safe.
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we appreciate the quick response from our fire department. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Salem R80 Central office at 573-729-6642.

Please join us on Saturday, February 15th from 7-11am at Salem Middle School for the 2025 Salem Rotary Pancake Day! Tickets are $8 (children 6 and under are free). Please stop by the Salem R80 Central Office to purchase tickets. Proceeds go towards 3-$1,000 scholarships for Salem Graduates.
We would like to address the recent report regarding a potential weapon on the campus of Salem Upper Elementary. It is important to clarify that the school was not on lockdown and there was no legitimate threat. Following a thorough investigation, we can confirm that no weapon was found and there was no immediate danger. The item in question turned out to be a medical device.
