Thank you to Chris Olds, former Great Lakes fish biologist and the US Forrest Service group who visited our Fish & Wildlife Class. Students learned about native fish—and even got hands-on with dissections!

A group of SHS students got the privilege to visit the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum on May 30th. This trip was provided for by a mini-grant from the Salem Public Schools Foundation. According to English teacher Eric Myers, "The grant allowing us to visit the Holocaust Museum in Saint Louis helped bring to life the effects of the Holocaust for the students since we read the memoir Night this year which detailed the life of a 15-year-old during the Holocaust. The tour guides stayed with the students and provided valuable information to the students. Many interactive displays allowed students to immersify themselves in the history. All the students were respectful of the history and content of the experience and most participated in the interactive displays, enthusiastically. They agreed that it added to their knowledge and experience of the Holocaust." Thank you Salem Public Schools Foundation for a valuable trip for our students.

The 9th to 12th-grade Cheer Tryouts for the 2025-2026 Football and Basketball seasons will be May 5th from 4-6 in the Tin Gym! We will have a clinic each night from April 28th to May 2nd from 3:45-5 in the Tin Gym. All current students and students entering 9th grade next year at Salem High School must attend at least 2 nights of clinics. Anyone interested in trying out MUST have an up-to-date physical on file or have one turned in on the first night they are at clinics. SHS students can pick up tryout packets from Mrs. Hogan in room #138. Rural school students should check with their school offices for a packet. Packets must be turned in filled out and signed in order for the athlete to attend clinics or tryouts. Packets will need to be turned in at clinics, not before. Thank you so much! Liz Hogan
