ROBOTICS
Salem High School started a F.I.R.S.T. Tech Challenge robotics team during the 2019-2020 school year. Led by computer science teacher Mrs. Pryor and local web developer Cory, the robotics team participated in two Meets and one Qualifier during the Skystone season. Visit this page frequently to keep up or get involved as we continue to build this exciting program!

February 1, 2020 -- Despite illnesses and conflicting schedules, a small few of the team trekked to the Oakville Qualifier near St. Louis, Missouri. The Circuit Breakers' first experience at a real robotics qualifier was a success! Five matches were played during the first segment of the competition. Of the 34 teams present, Salem's team placed 16th. The rookies even won a trophy for being the rookie team that impressed the judges the most!

November 23, 2019 -- Ready or not, here they come! The Circuit Breakers participated in their first ever robotics Meet in Springfield on Saturday. Adding duct tape and cardboard allowed the robot to be field-ready! This experience was valuable as the students continue to develop and improve the robot in preparation for the next one!
|
October 24, 2019 -- The addition of a second coach, Cory, who is a local web developer and gadget guru, has helped the team move forward in all areas of the robot build process. While the team started as a collaborative group, they soon moved into smaller groups based on skills and interests: mechanics, programming, and design.

September 27, 2019 -- The team has been hard at work getting started on the building process of the robot. Some members have been working on publicity, fundraising, and programming. The entire process is a learning experience for the students! They are learning great skills like critical thinking, public speaking, and marketing! See some of our pictures below.

September 10, 2019 -- The Robotics Team voted in officers at the third meeting of the school year! We also voted on a team name. We are the CIRCUIT BREAKERS!!! Preparations are under way to build the robot to this year's game specifications. We hope to be ready to participate in meets in November and January and a qualifier in February. Whether or not we advance, we will plan to attend the state championship at Missouri S & T in March!
|
June 10, 2019 -- A small group of interested students attended the Robotics Expo in Rolla. As we begin our new Computer Science program, we will also be starting a Robotics team! These students were able to see and experience first-hand what a robotics team can do! We were excited to be able to operate the robots ourselves, ask questions about mechanics and programming from other high school robotics team members, make connections, and get inspiration as we prepare for our first competitive year.
